What to do when Winter Break is approaching and everyone could use a boost?

Kumu Alapaʻi Kaulia, the Parent Community Networking Coordinator at Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino, applied for a Hōkūpaʻa mini grant for a drive-through “Winter Wonderland.” The event helped to brighten spirits, invite the community in safely, uplift students, and raise money for the school. Kumu Kaulia purchased decorations with the grant money, and the student body government took charge to set everything up. It was a chance for students to contribute to the community as leaders while practicing teamwork.

Student leaders and adult helpers ready to put on a great event!

“Winter Wonderland” featured decorated stations hosted by 40 staff, students, and volunteers. 123 people drove through, contributing ~$3,000 for future school field trips! The promise of future hands-on learning experiences in the community is a big deal for teachers and students.

Hōkūpaʻa was happy to be able to provide funding for this student-led event.

Mahalo to Kumu Alapaʻi Kaulia and the ʻEhunui school community for the wonderful event, as well as sharing these pictures.
