Updates from Hōkūpaʻa

With the end of the school year fast-approaching, we think it’s a good time to share about the wonderful campus and community resources available to students and their ʻohana. It’s not too late in the school year to utilize on-campus resources or get involved with community issues!

This month, the theme is youth health, wellness, and community connection. We are featuring Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center’s rapidly expanding school-based health center (and mobile operations!) programs, as well as an upcoming youth-focused substance use summit. It is important that we uplift and support youth, and also include them directly in enacting community solutions.

Featured Event:
Fentanyl & Addictions Summit

This year’s Fentanyl & Addictions Summit, presented by the Hawaiʻi Island Fentanyl Task Force, will be Tuesday May 6th, 8:00am - 4:00pm, at the Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium in Hilo.

This year’s theme is ʻŌpio Rising: Empowering Youth; Connecting Generations. We’re glad to see a focus on youth education, leadership, and empowerment. The youth component is from 9:00am - 1:45pm to accommodate students that will be transported from schools.

Please register and encourage others to register. Contact the event organizers if you would like to bring a group of students.
